What is a Health Cover insurance?
Australian medical cost could be very expensive without proper health cover. The Australian healthcare system is made up of two components:
- The public health system, known as Medicare and
- The private health system.
In general, Australian citizen, permanent residence and some specific visa holders have access to Medicare. Almost all other visa holders must have proper private health cover while they are in Australia. Without proper health cover, any treatment in Australia could cost lots of money, so it is recommended to have appropriate health cover while you are in Australia.
Form most temporary visa applicant must provide their adequate health insurance (OSHC/OVHC) for the proposed duration of their visa. Health insurance must cover everyone included in your application and should not have any gap in your coverage.
Note: Student visa applicant must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). If you are from Norway, Sweden or Belgium, you might not have to obtain OSHC (subject to Eligibility).
